  • The new Edmonton Branch Council: On Monday March 27th, ACTRA Edmonton hosted its AGM and election of officers for the 2006-2007 term.

    It is a pleasure to announce that by acclamation, Maralyn Ryan will return as President, Sonia Lyn Donaldson as Vice President, Nicole Wassill as Secretary and Rebecca Starr as Treasurer. Don Ast was acclaimed as National Councillor in January for 2006-2008. In addition there was an election for the positions of Branch Councillors and Alternates. Successful candidates for Councillors are Colin MacLean, Chris Moore and Brian Copping. Alternates are Larry Langley and Jay Smith.

    Karen Redford was in attendance to share her insightful and amusing memories of working on Brokeback Mountain with Ang Lee.

  • The Stage Mom Survival Guide: For parents of young performers in the Canadian Film and TV Industry. Remember, this Guide is free to Full Members and Apprentice Members in good standing. An extremely valuable book.

    To encourage its members to enter their resumés and photos into ACTRA's national online database, the Edmonton Branch has compiled these guidelines (Acrobat Reader required)
  • Reel Time Inc.: ACTRA has been advised that Reel Time Inc. has closed its offices in Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto. Those performers who are owed money or other commitments by Reel Time Inc. should visit the ACTRA Calgary website for information and possible recourse.

    Beginning in June 2006, and after a nationwide selection process, 10 Canadian theatre artists with a minimum of four years of professional experience will begin a two-year paid residency in the Soulpepper Academy at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts in downtown Toronto. Soulpepper Academy artists will include several actors and at least one designer, director and playwright.
